Classroom Routines
ROAR Notebook
Each student will be given a ROAR notebook. ROAR stands for Ready, Organized, and Responsible. The ROAR notebook includes a binder, agenda, daily schedule, homework section, important papers section, and a pencil pouch to hold lunch money, notes, etc. Please check your child's ROAR notebook every night for homework, notes from the teacher written in the agenda, and/or important papers to be signed and returned. I will sign every child's agenda every day. I am asking that you sign your child's agenda every day as well.
Homework
Throughout the year students will have various homework assignments. All assignments will be written on the board in the classroom. Each student will be responsible for copying the homework assignment into their agenda in their ROAR notebook. Homework is given on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday every week.
Newsletters
Monthly newsletters will be sent home every Friday in your child's briefcase. The newsletters contain information about upcoming events, the focus for the week's instruction in each subject area, needed items, our star student, and ideas for activities to complete at home. Please check your child's ROAR notebook for each month's newsletter.
Birthdays
We love birthdays! If you are interested in having a birthday party for your child in school, I ask that you inform me at least a week in advance. Birthday parties are held either right after lunch (11:50) or during snack time (2:00).
Discipline
Establishing good classroom discipline is essential to each child’s success, confidence and well-being. Every child should feel that the classroom environment is safe and secure; free from all threats of physical or emotional harm. In addition, it is important that each child learn to develop self-discipline and good work habits, to resolve conflicts peacefully, and to think independently.
Classroom Rules
Here are the rules that each child will have to follow in the classroom:
1. Keep hands, feet, and objects to yourself.
2. Always raise your hand and ask permission to do something.
3. Treat others with kindness.
4. Follow directions
Here are the logical consequences that will occur when class rules are broken:
1st time: Clip moved to yellow (walk and think time)
2nd time: Clip moved to orange (walk and think time)
3rd time: Clip moved to red (Office referral/Contact parents)
**Your child also has the opportunity to move his or her clip back to green throughout the day by making good choices!**
Classroom Economy
Earning
Each week students earn “Cap’s Cash” for the following things:
* $5 for each week they show perfect behavior
* $5 for each week they complete ALL of their homework on time
* $5 for each week their desks and R.O.A.R. notebooks are organized
* A set amount for the weekly job they are assigned
* A bonus $5 for doing ALL OF THE ABOVE!
This is an “all or nothing” system. If you miss one day of perfect behavior, you do not get paid the $5.00. If you miss one day of homework, you do not get paid the $5.00. If you are caught with a messy desk or R.O.A.R. notebook, you lose your $5.00. BUT...if you do EVERYTHING, you earn a bonus $5.00! Money will not be taken away, but you might not get paid depending on the circumstances.
On Fridays, students fill out a Receipt which categorizes the earnings shown above, and they get paid for what they earn.
Bonus Bucks
Students also have the opportunity to earn “Bonus Bucks” for the week for showing extraordinary behavior and doing good deeds towards others. They can also earn extra cash by completing Family Challenge Activities found on this website.
Saving
Students can save up for things such as a class party, free homework pass, extra computer time, a good note home to parents, and more!
Responsibility
From this system, students learn responsibility lessons. They learn to keep track of their money, and not to lose it. They learn to save up for things that are important to them instead of using the money as soon as they get it. They also learn the value of earning money instead of being given things for free. They will take more pride in their work and in their behavior.
Whole Class Rewards:
Compliment jar - Every time the class as a whole receives a compliment, they will receive a jewel to put in the compliment jar. Once the jar is full, they will receive a classroom party!
